Good access to services

This theme focuses on promoting greater equality and opportunity for all communities, helping to achieve a fairer society with good access to public transport for all.

For example the introduction of smart cards for buses and potentially other forms of transport or the development of new and improved park and ride services could make it easier for people to make the most of public transport links.

Please use the comments box below to share your ideas, including how we could make improvements in any of the following areas:
  • park and ride
  • community transport
  • fares/pricing
  • bus networks
  • taxi services

  1. Why should taxis get to use the bus lanes? They are effectively private transport, often carrying only one individual and often covering twice the distance for each journey

  2. i agree. if taxis are going to get priority they should be at the very least a low carbon emitting vehicle in the A or B tax bands - they'd be cheaper to run for the taxi owners and cut down on localised pollution issues also.

  3. i recently travelled to cheltenham by bus from stroud and was deposited in the city centre. I needed to get to the train station and could not find out how to get there, the signage and information available is terrible. I asked some epople at hte bus stop and they had no idea either. I had to walk, and its not close!

  4. Roving security on buses to tackle the yob and selfish element. Many people such as the elderly and less able are forced to stand when Mums with buggys don't give up seats to let them sit. Eventually these people give up using public transport and are then unable to effectively shop and socialise, which could limit their life potential.

  5. Reduce the cost of bus transport. It is not a viable option when you have a car, even with car park fees.
