For example, should we discourage commuters from parking in the town centre or enhance traffic management to reduce congestion? Should tour operators, hotels and tourist attractions be encouraged to provide information on transport services as an alternative to cars?
What sort of improvements would you like to see in the management of:
- regeneration and new developments
- public transport
- conjestion
- parking
- HGVs using local roads?
gone are the days when you need traffic flowing through a town centre for the businesses to be viable and flourish. people want to feel safe and get away from fumes and large and fast moving traffic. An efficinect and quiet increase in public transport should be encouraged along with interesting alternatives such as people powered cycle rickshaws - cheltenham centre is pretty flat after all
ReplyDeleteThere are many derelict sites both in town and in the suburbs. Sorting these out would do so much to lift the areas that they sit in.
ReplyDeleteHow depressing to live at Coronation Square or by the shops at the bottom of Springbank.
I strongly agree, there is no longer a need to have traffic in the town centre - may encourage more cafe culture rather than lager culture (traffic includes taxis & buses despite what the drivers of these vehicles think!)- the Royal Well Bus station should be the only bus stop so maybe traffic flow around there may have to become 2-way again.
ReplyDeleteDelivery & council vehicles should be excluded from centre between 9am-6pm everyday.
Rent-a-bikes in the town centre maybe even pedalo-type so that children could be carried from one end of town to the other.
A mass move away from people using cars won't happen with the inadequate bus service that we currently have - surely there are companies that could give Stagecoach some competition.
Finally what about being able to go both southbound and northbound on the M5 from the Tewkesbury road junction.
